Project Snapshot: The Story Behind the Patio
For this garden design project, our Landscaping Services were requested by a customer in Plymouth, which involved Patio Laying and Block Walling.
The Challenge
Our Landscaping Services started with the customer’s request to transform her garden in Plymouth into a contemporary, stylish design that will last. So we talked through some Landscaping materials we could use and decided on a Porcelain Patio with 8-inch Block Walling and some really stylish split-face tiles to give it that extra modern twist.
The Solution
We started with the digging out and removal of soil and rubble, which was wheelbarrowed straight into our trailer to get taken off to Chelson Meadow. After multiple trips, we came up against a problem: underneath the topsoil, it turned out to be solid clay!
So there was only one course of action: a reinforced concrete pour. This is due to the way clay is not suitable for installing a standard sub-base because it expands and shrinks when wet and then dry.
Now that the concrete base was installed, it was time to build the block wall. As always, we love to over-engineer our walls to ensure they will last, so we chose to install an 8-inch block wall, instead of the standard 4 inches. Luckily, the weather was on our side, unlike the typical miserable weather we normally experience in Plymouth and get rained off, so it went in lovely and quickly!
The Results
Finally, it was time to install the stunning Porcelain Patio to really start bringing the whole project together. To finish the whole contemporary look, split-face tiles were installed on the block wall face, giving a seamless design.
This was a lovely Garden Landscaping project to complete, and we look forward to completing the next Landscaping Services the customer has in store for us in Plymouth.
