Project Snapshot
This project involved a raised Wooden Decking Installation for a family in Plymouth.
The Challenge
This family’s previous decking was already there when they moved in and was in a sorry state due to poor installation and unsuitable materials used. They needed to come out their back door and walk onto the decking, as there were currently no steps, creating a trip-and-fall hazard.
The clients wanted balustrade handrails to prevent their children from falling off the edge of the Decking, and the installation of a Gate so that they could use the decking safely without accessing the garden.
So, we were asked to come in, replace everything, and make it safe for their young children. The whole week was just continuous rain and wind, but we powered through and got the job done.
The Solution
For this Decking Installation project in Plymouth, we fitted a Wooden Gate with a latch and safety handrails up to 1.2 metres high, in accordance with British standards. We fitted cladding along the outside of the frame and made sure the height of the Decking allowed for a smooth transition from the kitchen door onto steps, and down to the deck. High-quality materials were used, including joist hangers, with a Damp Proof Course (DPC) laid on top of the timbers to prevent rot.
