Decking Design & Planning
At Jackson Landscaping Ltd, we take care of every aspect of your installation, from the initial planning works to the finishing touches. To get your Decking project started, we will:
- Visit your home to assess your garden
- Discuss your design preferences & ideas
- Evaluate the direction your garden faces & recommend materials, e.g. timber decking for south-facing or sunny gardens or composite for north-facing or shaded areas
- Explain why we’re different & how we engineer everything to the highest standards
- Take measurements & write up your free, no-obligation quote
Decking Installation
- We prepare the ground, removing any existing deck or paving before starting the site clearance process.
- Once the site has been cleared & the ground is thoroughly prepared, we create the foundations & framework to start building the deck.
- We’ll lay weed control membrane, which helps to inhibit the growth of plant life & protects the underside.
- When the foundations and framework are in place, we’ll begin to lay the decking boards and create bespoke handrails, fencing & steps if required.
- DPC (Damp Proof Course) protection is applied to the top of all framing, allowing water to roll off & not come into contact with timber framing.
- Joists are installed at no greater distance than 400mm, preventing sagging.
Aftercare & Maintenance
- Clean down the site, making sure everything is tidy
- Give your decking a final inspection
- Walk around your project with you, ensuring you are happy
- Talk about maintenance & any of our services you might like in the future to help maintain your landscape garden

Project Highlight
A Composite Decking Project in Plymouth
Feel free to take a look at one of the projects we completed in Plymouth, which involved a Composite Decking Installation to replace old and tired wooden decking.
The Challenge
Wendy first approached us for help because she was fed up with her old, tired wood decking and asked us to provide a quote for a complete overhaul, replacing the wood with composite decking. Her existing decking was not only rotten, but also extremely dangerous in the winter. We had a deadline to meet, as the job needed to be completed before a set timescale.
The Solution
We visited Wendy to show her the composite samples, such as Cladco & NewTechWood, go through colour options, and discuss the installation and time frame in more detail. The old decking was removed and responsibly disposed of. All the supporting posts were coated with bitumen to help prevent water from penetrating the timber and causing the supports to rot. Next, we constructed the frame and installed the supports, followed by the decking boards.
The Results
Due to the persistently rainy weather during the weekdays, we worked over the weekends to ensure the project was completed on time. The project was delivered within the deadline and to the exact specifications. Wendy was delighted!

Can You Build Raised Decking?
Yes, we have completed many raised decking projects in a variety of different styles and materials, including multi-tiered installations. The installation process is slightly different in comparison to standard decking, with a lot of additional supports put in place to ensure your deck is built for both safety and durability.
Can You Build Decking With Stairs?
Yes! We have two different installation methods for decking stairs, depending on the number of steps needed and your ground conditions. During your site survey and quote, we can talk through the best option for your garden.
Do You Offer Free Site Surveys & Quotes?
Yes, we do! We’ll visit your home to find out more about your garden, your requirements and how you plan to use it. This will allow us to recommend the best kind of decking for your outdoor space. Then, we’ll survey the site together, take some measurements, and talk you through your different options and prices.
Once we’ve done this, we’ll then head back to our office, speak to our suppliers, and provide you with a no-obligation quote for our Decking Services.

Do You Remove & Dispose of Old Decking?
Yes, we will take down and dispose of any old decking you may have, offering a complete service from start to finish. We have a full registered waste carriers licence as well as trucks and trailers to take away any waste produced.
